Just like an athlete or sportsperson, a horse in work can develop areas of soreness. With our horses here at River Valley, we have found that because of the hill country we ride over, our horses are very strong in the back (arse) end, but can often get sore around the shoulders. Much of this is from inexperienced riders putting too much weight on the front of the horse riding downhill. In this video we watch a horse chiropractor realigning a number of our horses. The horses feel so good afterwards, that they will often follow him around the year with a happy glazed look on their faces. For more info – http://www.rivervalley.co.nz

Video shows how to clip a horse without distressing the animal. Clipping is useful when it gets colder in the autumn and winter and you ride your horse, making them hot and possibly sweaty, they can sometimes get a chill when you get off them. Straight from the HorseâÂÂs Heart: A Spiritual Ride through Love, Loss, and Hope by new author R. T. Fitch is an altogether special book that sows more than a few wild oats of goodness, inspiration, and heart. This thoughtful and endearing collection of thirty distinct and timeless vignettes is rich and wise. Whether it is the rescue of a missing pony after a hurricane near the Gulf of Mexico or the heartfelt whinny of an abused horse in Nigeria, the author composes beautiful and poetic images on life. While this bookâÂÂs significance is universal, animal and horse lovers are especially in for a treat as loss, turmoil, and grief are intertwined with heroic tales of survival and human empathy. With titles such as âÂÂI Sit in Wonder,â âÂÂShe Stole My Heart,â and âÂÂWhispers in the Night,â on these pages is love and symmetry. This collection showcases the contemplative places of the heart, which we are able to learn from his four-legged friends, if we take time to listen closely enough.
