I recently started riding horses about 3 weeks ago, i already have a standard bred horse which I’ve rode around 10 times already and got threw off once… the problem is when you ride her she dont want to walk with you, she wants to get up and go.. and i dont like that.. im wondering how can i train my horse to walk when im riding it.

I think that the best thing to do is to sit deep in the saddle, and stay relaxed. mAke sure you’re not grabbing your horse with your heels, and keep a firm but relaxed hold on the reigns. Reward him a lot when he walks, and also practice walking him just on a lead and try some bareback, because it is relaxing. Only go faster if your horse responds at a walk, and he will learn that in order to canter or trot he has to walk nicely first. With well trained horses, it also helps to say "walk" to them with a strong, confident yet calm voice. Good luck!

Can anyone recommend a good sleepaway camp in NJ or any state surrounding NJ? Something where you are assigned to a horse and you take care of him and lots of riding, a little bareback would be nice too!

Just wondering…. During my English riding lessons, I always use a saddle, but occasionally I see girls ride bareback, and I was just wondering if it was comfortable. Does it all depend on the bone structure of the horse?

If you’re inexperienced then it’s uncomfortable for the horse!
You need good balance and an independant seat befor you should attempt bareback, or sitting trot in a saddle. Your horse should also be correctly warmed up so that their back is soft – riding a horse who is hollow or who hasn’t warmed up to the point where he can offer his back to you, can cause muscular damage to the horse.
